How do Fishbites work?
Fishbites work on the same principles that natural cut baits do. You have a piece of exposed flesh on a hook. The exposed flesh releases chemicals that dissolve into the water and create a powerful scent trail. Fish detect those scents, then track them and attempt to eat the flesh.
All Fishbites products are made with a mesh "skeleton" surrounded by a hardened but still flexible gel with a flesh-like texture. Fishbites slowly dissolve in water, releasing powerful feeding stimulants that attract fish.
Because our artificial baits have scents and textures that mimic their natural prey so well, fish tend to bite longer on Fishbites than other artificial baits, giving you better chances to set the hook.
Are Fishbites better than natural bait?
Fishbites have all the advantages of natural cut bait, and then some. Fishbites’ feeding stimulants mimic those of fishes’ natural prey but are more refined and potent, so they tend to catch more fish. Fishbites are durably made and quite capable of withstanding bait stealers, numerous strikes, and long casts. They also keep well for long periods of time, saving you numerous trips to the bait store. Fishbites’ virtual odorlessness (to humans) is a big plus as well. Lastly, all our artificial baits are non-toxic and100 percent biodegradable, and are not harmful to fish if swallowed.
Can I alter the size and shape of Fishbites?
Fishbites come in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate fishing for a range of species with different styles and in various weather conditions. Our customers love the fact that they can use their own ingenuity and imagination to cut our artificial baits any way they like. All you need is a pair of sharp scissors, meat shears, or game shears. How else can I use Fishbites?
Fishbites are all about versatility. Bag O’Worms, Fish’n Strips, and E-Z Tails, for example, are often used on hooks all by themselves. Fishbites also can be cut into pieces to dress up a jig head, create a trailer on a jig or skirt, and complement a soft or hard plastic lure—this way you’re getting the scent and the simulated movement of fishes’ natural prey. Anglers also use Fishbites in chunks to create a chum line when using live bait. We’ve heard from fly fishermen who’ve experimented successfully with tying small, thin strips of Fishbites onto their saltwater flies.

What size hook should I use with my Fishbites?
The Fishbites concept is simple. Bigger hook, bigger bait, bigger fish - smaller hook, smaller bait, smaller fish. While everyone certainly aims for bigger fish, not all big fish are created equal, which is why the best choice of Fishbites bait centers around your choice of tackle for any given species. Below is a quick list of recommended hook sizes for each of our products. Because some of our products give you the flexibility to determine the bait size you want, we leave the hook size up to you. This list applies to both the Fast Acting and Longer Lasting bait formulations.

Why can’t I smell anything fishy in Fishbites? How can your products work without these odors?
Contrary to popular belief, there is little in common between what humans smell in the air and what fish detect in the water. Odors that persist in the air do not necessarily dissolve in water and become detectable or attractive to fish. That’s why Fishbites’ unique technology replicates the natural chemicals fish actually do use to detect and track their prey. While the substances in Fishbites have very little odor to humans, when they slowly begin to dissolve in the water they release a trail of potent feeding stimulants fish will detect and track. This is what makes Fishbites such an ingenious breakthrough in the realm of artificial baits.
How can I tell when it’s time to change my bait?
Generally, each piece of Fishbites will last 15-30 minutes. You’ll know when it’s time to put a new piece of Fishbites on your hook when there’s nothing left of the product but the mesh. Even a piece of Fishbites that’s been beat up by strikes or bait stealers will still be releasing feeding stimulants as long as the gel hasn’t completely dissolved. If the mesh somehow gets torn or weakened, this would be another time to rebait so you don’t risk losing a fish. Use sharp scissors, meat shears, or game shears if you have trouble sliding the mesh off your hook.
How should I store my Fishbites?
While fishing, keep your Fishbites dry with the bag zipped up tight between baiting. There’s no need to keep them in a cooler—your pocket or tackle box will work just fine.
Generally, you can count on our products lasting for at least a year if they are zipped up tight and stored at room temperature.
There is no need to worry if your Fishbites darken slightly over time. The real working components of Fishbites are the scent and durability, neither of which is affected by changes in color. Likewise, Fishbites may get tougher over long periods of time, but they will soften in the water and catch fish all the same. Stowing Fishbites in the refrigerator will prevent color changes.
