This innovative bait features a cloth binder in the middle, keeping it securely on the hook—even against the most persistent bait stealers.

Ghost shrimp are a highly effective bait, particularly for Florida pompano, but their natural burrowing behavior makes them difficult to find and catch. To make this sought-after bait more accessible to anglers worldwide, Fishbites® scientists went back to the lab to analyze and replicate its chemical composition as a synthetic bait.

Dr. William Carr, the inventor of Fishbites®, originally conducted his research at the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, where Fishbites® was first developed. A team of scientists—Dr. Charles (Chuck) Derby, Dr. Yuriy Bobkov, and Dr. Joseph Ryan—spent time at Whitney Lab studying live ghost shrimp specimens.

“The approach is to understand the chemicals released by ghost shrimp—known as metabolites—which attract fish to live bait,” explains Dr. Derby. Once these key components were identified, Fishbites® created a synthetic stimulant using its signature flavor/scent technology, mimicking the natural attractants of live ghost shrimp.
