Pro Guide Don Dingman
Jacksonville charter captain Don Dingman's “Hook the Future” program revolves around fishing – but it’s about a lot more than landing lunkers. It’s also about empowering your children. The show is hosted by Don Dingman, an expert angler who lost his 22-year old son, Brian, in 2004. This inspired Don to produce this program to show other parents how important it is to spend quality time with their own kids. Going out fishing 3 times a month with his own dad, Don learned how precious that parent/child connection is, and how the best way to teach a kid to do something, is to simply let him do it.
Each week, Captain Don takes a fresh crew to a new adventure. Among last years episodes was a trip out of Jacksonville, Florida for giant bull reds, a trip to Homer, Alaska for halibut, salmon and lingcod and a journey to exotic Guatemala to battle rooster fish and big pacific sails. In each episode, the kids are the prime movers – from piloting the boat to landing fish as big as they are. From marlin to panfish and everything in between, wherever there are kids and a hot bite, Hook the Future is there.

Noel loves all types of fishing but surf fishing is his passion. One of his quotes is “ It doesn’t matter if it’s Bluegill, Bluefish, or Blue Marlin fishing is a blast when you’ve got the tackle matched with the fish your targeting. “ Noel is a native of Jacksonville and has enjoyed surf fishing for the last 40 years.
He is a founding member of the Florida Surfcasters club. Noel is a past President and is currently on the Board of Directors. He has enjoyed the success of winning club tournaments along with open to the public annual tournaments. With that said, what he gets the most pleasure from is teaching people how to fish. He has been the guest speaker at several other fishing clubs where he has sparked the passion in many new surf anglers. Along with that he runs a guide service specializing in surf fishing from Fernandina south to Daytona. He takes great pride in putting his clients in position to slide fish onto the sand and is at the same time a teacher of conservation, sportsmanship, and stewardship of the beach environment.
Two other ways he expands his passion for the surf is teaching long distance casting and building high quality sand spikes. The spikes are built by hand in his garage. The casting lessons are held at a soccer field where his students can let it fly! Noel said “The look on a student’s face when they first crack 300, 400, or 500 feet is priceless.“
When asked to describe a perfect day of surf fishing he said, “Toes in the sand 30 minutes before sunrise. A 10 mph southeast breeze in your face with three foot curls breaking in clean water. Sliding some fat Pompano on to the sand. Next a drag screaming six foot Blacktip going air borne. Then grabbing lunch with fellow surfcasters on the way home. To top it off, dinner that night with my family when I serve them Pompano filets hot off the grill!”
Captain Joel Luteran
Joel Luteran is our youngest guide in the program at just fourteen years old! Joel was born and raised in St. Augustine, FL and has been fishing the backwaters here since the age of 7. By the time Joel turned 12, it wasn’t an Xbox or Playstation he was interested in, it was a 16 foot Stumpknocker with a 25hp motor which he’s been running on his own since. When Joel’s not fishing he’s walking the woods during hunting season or riding the surf, which he learned to do when he was still in diapers at the age of 3. Joel’s favorite species to target is the red fish. “There’s nothing more exciting than landing a big red on light tackle and a loose drag for a long, challenging fight”. Joel’s dream is to make a living fishing one day. We here at Fishbites have no doubt he’ll make that dream come true and are proud to be a part of it. This kid knows what he’s doing!

Captain Mike Patterson
Born in Baltimore Maryland and raised in Westminster, Mike began fishing in a small stream behind his house at the age of 4. Growing up in Maryland gave him many opportunities to fish in ponds, streams, lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, and let’s not forget the Chesapeake Bay.
In his early teens and early 20s he shot many firearms. Mike would hunt for anything that gave him a challenge and also became an avid archer for hunting and tournaments. He became a State Champion many times over and won The National Title at the age of 23.
Mike’s career choice was an electrician but at the age of 24 Mike had a terrible accident. He fell through a roof that was up 30 feet and broke his neck. His break was the same kind as Christopher Reeve’s (Superman). After a lot of luck and rehab, Mike realized that the time he had had left in this big beautiful world was now on borrowed time and wanted to live his life to the fullest each and every day forward. Mike was still limited as to the things he could do, so with his love for the water Mike changed his career and learned to scuba dive and soon became a dive instructor. With his knowledge for fishing, diving and love for the water he moved to Islamorada “The Sportfishing Capitol of the World”, in the Florida Keys, and ran a dive shop and soon after bought an offshore boat and started a Fishing Charter business. Mike realized he really enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion of fishing with others, he loves meeting new and exciting friends, and besides, it’s not so bad to have your office under the big blue sky and nothing but water all around you.
Sailfish became his fish of choice. Mike competed in every tournament in town and won 1st, 2ndor 3rd place in almost every tournament that he competed in. So then it was time to try backcountry and flats fishing. After 1 year, Mike sold his off shore boat and became a full time Backcountry Fishing Guide, winning many backcountry tournaments and is still backcountry fishing today.
Mike has had the opportunity to be a Fishing Guide for a past President, sports heroes, actors, senators and some very interesting fishermen and enjoys every minute of it. You could sit for hours and hear all the interesting stories that Mike has to offer about events, people, and some pretty interesting situations he has come to find himself in. This is what led Mike to The American Outdoorsman and is very honored to be a member of the “Pro Staff”. He is looking forward to bringing his passion and knowledge of fishing to The American Outdoorsman
Mike has been a fishing guide for about 38 years now. He made a full recovery from his near death accident and by looking at him today you would never know that it even happened. He continues to live his life to the fullest and is thankful for every day he has.

Captain Dave Sipler
Life long fisherman from freshwater to salt. Offshore 50 miles, to a foot of water in a back creek.
Capt Dave has done a lot in his 21 year fishing career. From hosting a Saturday morning fishing radio talk show in Jacksonville, to producing two of his own instructional 40 minute how-to tapes on fishing for inshore species. He participated in promoting/selling Carolina Skiff bay boats, for a local dealership. And is a long time member of the Jacksonville Offshore Sport Fishing Club, serving on the board of directors for many years.
Capt Dave's charter fishing business is centered around his first love. Fishing the St. Johns River Inlet. After fishing numerous size and style boats through out the years, in 1996 he put in his order to have his present charter boat built. A boat that would be the ultimate "family friendly", but tough as nails, charter boat. One that would never shy away from the big water of the Mayport Jetties, but was equally at home fishing the St. Johns River, Nassau River and Intracoastal waterway. So, it's easy to say, he's probably most known for his boat the "Jettywolf". In this area, it's quite unique. Being a custom built all welded aluminum plate 26 foot center console, fitted with a mega-sized top and "square dancing space" to fish from. Capt Dave's Sport Fishing targets all inshore species 12 months a year, 7 days a week, that are seasonally sought after. His specialty is Speckled Sea Trout, and big ones! Capt. Dave has a extensive Youtube channel, highlighting his customers, techniques, various species, how-to's, and his addiction to fine tackle.
Capt. Paul Sperco
"Capt. Paul" is a transplanted inshore and offshore fisherman from New Jersey. He relocated to Port St Lucie five years ago after having vacationed in that area for over 25 years. His northern pursuit of sea bass, fluke, bluefish, and striped bass on the inshore scene to yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, mako and thresher sharks in the northern canyons was replaced by targeting the fantastic surf fishing opportunities that are available along the Treasure Coast. Permit, pompano, whiting, croaker, snook, tarpon, spanish mackerel, bluefish, and jack crevalle are just some of the species that he personally targets and guides his surf fishing charters to along this stretch of southeast Florida. A Bass Pro Shop associate, Paul is also a member of the Penn Pro Staff and affiliated with the area’s biggest bait and tackle shop on Hutchinson Island - the Snook Nook in Jensen Beach. He conducts How To Seminars at Bass Pro Shops on a regular schedule. Capt. Paul also conducts other off-site seminars for civic groups and fishing clubs from Fort Pierce to West Palm Beach. You can hear Paul's South Florida Surf Fishing Report on Saturday morning on 94.3/WZZR. As far as print and online, you can read his Surf Fishing Reports on a regular basis in all of the TC Palm publications, Stuart News, St. Lucie News, St. Lucie Tribune, Indian River Press, and on TCPalm.com, in the fishing report columns that are headed by the widely known and respected outdoor sports writer, Ed Killer. Paul spends an average of four to five days a week on the beach along the Treasure Coast guiding and personally fishing for the multitude of fish that are available along this great section of the Florida coast. One of the best aspects of surf fishing is that it is the perfect sport for everyone from children to grandparents." Anyone can do it and it’s a much fun watching my grandson and granddaughters reel in a 12 inch whiting as it is watching a charter customer land his first pompano or snook", says Paul.
Captain Zach Timmons, owner/operator of First City Fishing Charters located in St. Augustine, Florida has spent most of his life on the water. He’s a St. Augustine native, and a 5th generation boat captain. In the early 80's his father started the well known Sea Love Deep Sea Fishing business. Growing up working and captaining for his family business is where Zach started his passion for fishing and dedication to being one of the finest fishing captains in the area here in St. Augustine. Capt Zach takes pride in his job and loves seeing guests catch the fish of a lifetime.Read more...
